Golden Flower & The Lustre Trio
About this Event
Join us as Golden Flower and The Lustre Trio embark on a journey of sonic storytelling and spontaneous composition, nestled in an intimate listening room. This show will also celebrate new album releases from each band: Golden Flower's Are You Even Awake? and The Lustre Trio's Praxis.Forged in the heat of Florida comes one of the most exciting new voices in progressive jazz: Golden Flower. This Orlando-based ensemble features Shawn Villanueva on trumpet, Caitlin Pequignot on violin, Patrick Moreno on electric piano, Brandon Kyle Miller on bass, and Cameron Gholami on drums. The group focuses on the heartbeat of rhythm in each of their songs, intricately crafting compositions that explore international musical influences, adventurous improvisation, and deep emotional energy. Blending eclectic styles of jazz, progressive rock, funk, alternative rock, Afro-Latin music, South Asian folk, and electronic dance music, Golden Flower finds a sound and genre all its own. One of the cornerstones of their music is their dynamic group interplay; each band member leads and supports the group at different moments in each song. Through this musical interaction and empathy, they're able to create compelling musical narratives that delve into complex emotions.
Thomas Milovac’s The Lustre Trio is an evolving improvisational jazz project rooted in Orlando’s adventurous underground music scene. Featuring Milovac alongside Zach Muth and Ashton Bailey, the trio blends free jazz, ambient textures, post-bop, noise experimentation, and cinematic improvisation into performances that feel spontaneous, atmospheric, and deeply collaborative. Rather than functioning like a traditional jazz trio with rigid structures, The Lustre Trio operates more like a fluid sonic conversation. Their music often shifts between meditative passages, abstract soundscapes, rhythmic grooves, and explosive improvisational moments. Zach Muth’s guitar work brings a mix of jazz harmony, experimental effects, and rock-influenced texture, while Ashton Bailey contributes dynamic rhythmic and tonal interplay that grounds and destabilizes the music at the same time. Milovac’s bass playing acts as both anchor and catalyst, moving between lyrical melodic phrasing and avant-garde exploration.
