Discover the timeless art of goldwork embroidery in this inspiring one-day workshop. Under the expert guidance of renowned textile artist Kathleen Laurel Sage, you will explore traditional techniques including felt padding, couching, and cutwork to create a beautiful embroidered fuchsia in shimmering metal threads. As your design takes shape, you'll learn how to achieve the rich texture, depth, and refinement that make goldwork so distinctive, culminating in an elegant circular plaque ready to frame and display.
Skill Level: Suitable for intermediate stitchers and confident beginners with some basic embroidery experience.
You will need gold work threads, fabric and basic needlework tools. Detailed requirements will be emailed to you in advance of your class. Use your stash or shop for everything you need in store or online at Tudor Rose Patchwork.
Kathy has been passionate about crafts from a young age, starting with card-making before learning to crochet and sew. She later developed her skills through college courses, achieving City & Guilds qualifications in patchwork, quilting, and embroidery, as well as an OCN Diploma in Textiles.
Inspired by flowers and foliage—particularly from her own garden—Kathy creates intricate 3D textile pieces using layered fabrics such as organza, combined with machine stitching. Her work often features beads, wire, stumpwork, and heat techniques.
Kathy teaches a range of techniques, including hand and machine embroidery, goldwork, heat-based methods, and contemporary textile art.
