Mixologist and purveyor of fine spirits Diane Keesee demonstrates just how easy it can be to create uniquely flavored vodkas using native plants from the eastern United States, including blackberries, blueberries, and Juglans nigra (black walnut).
Exploring the foundations of a great cocktail. Learn the classic formula for balance—how sweetness, acidity, bitterness, and spirit strength work together to create harmony in the glass. Diane will break down the essential structure behind timeless cocktails so you can confidently build your own.
From there, dive into the art of infusion. Discover methods for preparing fruits, nuts, and botanicals; how to choose the right vodka base; and techniques for extracting clean, vibrant flavors. Diane will guide you through infusion timing, flavor layering, and how to elevate the quality of your homemade spirits.
Participants will sample a variety of infused vodkas and experience firsthand how different native ingredients contribute depth, aroma, and character. You’ll leave inspired—and equipped—to craft your own signature cocktails at home, rooted in the flavors of our regional landscape.

This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Saturday, July 18, 2026.
About the Instructor:
Diane Keesee has a passion for creating interesting signature cocktails, spirit infusions, shrubs, and bitters, using unique seasonal ingredients. She has been involved in hospitality management and the beverage industry for more than 20 years, including having worked for Greenville Country Club and Vicmead Hunt Club.
