Go-Go Graffiti Class: Words Beats & Life Hip-Hop Experience

About this Event

D.C. has its own sound. It has its own style. And it definitely has its own graffiti.

Go-Go Graffiti 202 is a two-hour, hands-on workshop that digs into the look, rhythm and personality of Washington, D.C. graffiti.

We’ll explore how go-go culture, neighborhood identity, old-school handbills, murals and local lettering traditions helped shape a distinctly D.C. approach to the straight letter.

Then it’s time to put that inspiration to work.

Starting with basic letter structures, you’ll build your own name piece while learning how to make your letters stronger, cleaner and more consistent. From there, we’ll add style and personality without losing the most important part, readability.

The Go-Go Graffiti Challenge

We’ll wrap things up with a challenge: create a memorable name design that has rhythm, personality and a connection to your own identity and D.C. style.

Think less about making the wildest piece in the room and more about making something bold, readable and unmistakably yours.

Before You Sign Up

Go-Go Graffiti is a 202-level workshop. We strongly recommend taking our Intro to Graffiti 101 class first, especially if you haven't worked with aerosol paint before.

Already comfortable with a spray can and have some graffiti experience? Come through.

Spots are limited to 10 per class

The entire experience will be about two hours long

Guests of all ages can attend

No outside alcohol or controlled substances are allowed.

This is a group activity, not a private lesson. Be prepared to interact with other aspiring artists and hip-hop enthusiasts as you work with our instructor.
