Now that Ray Harral Nature Center has become a certified Firefly Habitat, we’re excited to take the next step in protecting these incredible insects. This summer, we invite you to join our very first citizen science firefly survey.Conservation is in your hands! By volunteering as a community scientist, you’ll help monitor local firefly populations and contribute valuable data that helps scientists understand and protect native wildlife. Whether you love the outdoors, care about the environment, or simply want to be part of a fun and meaningful scientific activity, Glow Patrol is a great way to get involved.
Bring a friend or your family and join us for an evening nature adventure. Volunteers will walk an easy trail at Ray Harral Nature Center and help record firefly activity this summer. These observations provide important insights into how our native wildlife interacts with the changing environment.
Participants should be comfortable working independently outdoors after dark while following established conservation and safety protocols. A training session will be provided before surveys begin.
Community science projects like this are only possible with the support of people like you. In a world that can often feel disconnected, Glow Patrol brings people together with a shared purpose: learning about and protecting the amazing wildlife that calls Ray Harral home.
If you’re looking for a reason to spend more time outdoors and make a real impact, take the first step and become a community scientist. Training begins at 6 PM, with surveys continuing until 9 PM.
