The Glidden Homestead, 921 W. Lincoln Highway, will host its annual "Glidden's 1873 Date Night" from 7 to 9 pm on Friday, February 13 at the Homestead. Tickets are limited. Couples will enjoy circa 1870 courting traditions which include period parlor games, music, desserts and tea, and hear the captivating love story of Joseph and Lucinda Glidden. The courting couples will then cap off the evening by writing love notes to each other and sealing their love with a wax barbed wire seal. There will also be door prizes available. Period dress is not required.
Tickets are $80 per couple, with proceeds supporting operations and preservation of the historic Homestead, including the barn and home which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Date Night will be held on the second floor of the historic Homestead, only accessible by a flight of stairs. Joseph Farwell Glidden's invention of one of the most widely-used types of barbed wire in 1873 helped change the history of the American West and had far-reaching impact throughout the world. His Homestead is being preserved and restored by a not-for-profit organization founded in 1995.
