About this Event
If there's one brand — and one brand ambassador — that doesn't need an introduction, it's Glenmorangie and National Brand Ambassador Dan Crowell! But if you don't know, Glenmorangie Distillery makes non-peated single malt whisky in the tallest stills in the world. (They are as tall as a giraffe!) They are known for pioneering the field of wood finishes, which they still experiment with today.
And that's exactly what we're diving into for our next event: tasting the wine and fortified wine that influences the barrels that Glenmorangie whisky ages in, alongside the whisky itself. Plus, many of Glenmorangie's core expressions have been updated or increased their age statements, so they might be new to you. And we'll try the brand new Harrison Ford Limited Edition, too!
We'll be back at one of our favorite spots, Warehouse Liquors, and have sandwiches and charcuterie catered from All Together Now.
Here are the 6 whiskies we'll taste:
- Original 12 - aged for 12 years in ex-bourbon casks, the new Original is older and better than the previous 10 year, with a nose of citrus, peaches, and vanilla softness, and a palate of vanilla and flowery fruitiness. This will set the stage for the rest of the tastings, giving us a baseline of Glenmorangie's house style.
- Lasanta 15 - recently increased from the 12 year, now aged for 15 years in ex-bourbon and Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks. On the nose are notes of toffee, plum, ripe cherry, and plump raisins, and a palate of plum, black cherry, marmalade, and baking spices.
- Nectar 16 - formerly known as Nectar D'or, the new Nectar is older and now aged in ex-bourbon and sweet wine casks (Sauternes and Monbazillac casks from France, Moscatel casks from Spain, and Tokaji casks from Hungary). On the nose are notes of brioche, baked apricot, vanilla pudding, toasted almonds, and chocolate truffles; on the palate are notes of lemon zest, vanilla créme anglaise, baked apricots, raisin bread, roasting chestnuts, and baking spices.
- A Tale of Spices - the first Glenmorangie whisky aged in four different casks: new charred oak, shaved/toasted red wine, Pedro Ximenez sherry, and Moroccan red wine. On the nose are notes of rose, carnation, jasmine, and lilac with spices; on the palate are notes of ginger, black pepper, mustard seed, mint toffee, demerara sugar, and sugar-coated almonds.
- Harrison Ford Limited Edition - crafted with the timeless legend himself, aged in ex-bourbon and toasted Portuguese red wine casks. On the nose are notes of zesty citrus fruits, honeysuckle, jasmine, and beeswax. The palate has a bite, with notes of Seville oranges, lemon, grapefruit, baked bread, apricot, and butter candy.
- Infinita 18 - Another new and improved expression, the Infinita is aged 18 years (!) in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. On the nose are notes of honey, toasted oak, citrus peel, candied ginger, and lemon zest; and on the palate are notes of honeyed fruits, peach, pepper, clove, smoke, oak, and orange cake.
And alongside these whiskies, we'll taste these 9 wines/fortified wines: Oloroso sherry, Pedro Ximenez sherry, Sauternes, Monbazillac, Tokaji, Portuguese red table wine, dry Moscatel table wine, Moscatel dessert wine, and Southern Rhone red wine.
As if it can't get any better, all ticket sales will be donated to the Chicago Foundation for Women, a non-profit group focusing on the issues that affect all women, girls, trans, and gender-expansive people.
We're in for a deliciously adventurous evening and tickets are limited, so jump on them quick!
