Glenglassaugh Whisky Dinner with Global Brand Ambassador Stuart Buchanan
About this Event
Glenglassaugh Distillery is a small but mighty distillery located in Scotland’s Highland region, right on the coast. Their whisky is shaped by land and sea, with coastal, fruity, and floral characteristics. They make both peated and un-peated single malts.
The distillery’s history is a “Phoenix from the ashes” story, opening in 1874 and closing (and re-opening) several times. Most recently, it closed in 1986 and re-opened in 2006. In 2017, the incredible Rachel Barrie was named Master Blender of Glenglassaugh, along with sister distilleries Glendronach and Benriach.
We're celebrating the launch of Glenglassaugh 15 year old and joining us for our event is Stuart Buchanan, Global Brand Ambassador of Glenglassaugh, Glendronach, and Benriach. He has over 30 years of experience in the whisky industry, from production to warehouse and cask management, so there isn’t a whisky question he can’t answer!
Because Glenglassaugh is a coastal whisky, we’re pairing it with seafood. And what better place for that than Sushi-san?!
We’ll start with a welcome cocktail, then taste five Glenglassaugh whiskies paired with a family-style dinner. Here’s what we’ll taste:
- Glenglassaugh 12 - Aged 12 years in bourbon, sherry, and red wine casks, with a nose of sweet coastal waves of ripe apricot and fig with toasted vanilla and tropical flora. On the palate are notes of candied pistachio, date, and sweet fig rolled into morello cherry and whipped cream infused with fresh coastal air.
- Sandend - Named Whisky Advocate's Whisky of the Year 2023, this whisky is aged in bourbon, sherry, and manzanilla casks. On the nose are notes of soft buttery vanilla ice cream drenched in tropical fruit, with chocolate and a touch of sea salt. On the palate are notes of salted caramel with an effervescent burst of pineapple, cherry, and grapefruit, enlivened by the ocean shore.
- Portsoy - Aged in sherry, bourbon, and port, this richly peated single malt has a nose of maritime waves infused with tropical fruit and sherried dark soy, rolling into port with licorice and sea kelp. On the palate are notes of dark chocolate, fermented soy, and charred mango with treacle and a crack of sea salt.
- Glenglassaugh 15 - This newly launched whisky spent 15 years in Pedro Ximenez sherry and Spanish Rioja wine casks. On the nose are notes of chocolate sauce and salted caramel laced with bright Spanish orange, dark manuka honey, and rich date oil. On the palate are notes of salted treacle and caramelized date with juicy orange papaya within an enveloping chocolate and coffee elixir.
- Something Special - our last one is a surprise!
And to sweeten the deal even more, a portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the Women Employed!
