Glen Affric Autumn Woodland & Intimate Landscape Photography Workshop

Explore the ancient woodlands of Glen Affric during the height of autumn on this practical landscape photography workshop, focused on woodland composition, intimate landscapes and creative seeing.

Rather than concentrating only on wide mountain views, we will spend time among Glen Affric’s birch trees, Scots pine, hanging lichen, bracken, woodland details and layered seasonal colour—the elements that make this landscape so distinctive.

Throughout the day, you will receive guidance on:

• Finding order within complex woodland scenes
• Creating strong compositions using trees, shapes, layers and negative space
• Photographing intimate landscape details
• Working with autumn colour, texture and atmosphere
• Choosing suitable focal lengths and camera settings
• Using depth of field, shutter speed and exposure creatively
• Developing a slower, more considered approach to landscape photography

The workshop is suitable for photographers of all abilities. Tuition will be adapted to your experience, whether you are learning the foundations of landscape photography or refining a more personal and expressive style.

Glen Affric is one of Scotland’s most beautiful surviving areas of ancient Caledonian woodland. Autumn brings rich colour, soft light and constantly changing conditions, creating opportunities for both wider woodland scenes and quieter, more detailed photographs.

You should bring your own camera, lenses, tripod, suitable outdoor clothing, waterproofs, sturdy footwear, food and drinks for the day. A polarising filter can also be useful but is not essential.

The workshop involves walking on woodland paths and uneven ground, with regular stops for photography and tuition.
