Glazing for Beginners

An introduction to glazing pottery for beginners. This class is the perfect next step if you've been to some taster classes and now you're ready to learn how to finish your own pieces or if you're preparing for a pottery studio membership. Please note we will be using brush-on glazes in this class, no dipping of pots.
The world of glazing is vast but in this class we will focus on the very basics:

• Preparing a piece of bisque for glazing
• The difference between underglazes and glazes
• How to apply both for successful results
• Using wax resist & tape for decorative results

You will have access to a range of Terracolour, Speedball, Mayco, Amaco and studio-made glazes to decorate your pieces. You are welcome to bring some of your own bisqued pottery to work on as long as the clay is able to fire to 1250°C. If you don't have your own pots, we will provide some test pieces and tiles for you to practice on.

After the class your pieces will be left in the studio to be fired by studio technicians, ready to collect in 2 weeks.

The Venue: Creative Bloc Glasgow is an arts collective and creative studio in Glasgow North-West. 814 Garscube Road, G20 7ET.

The front entrance on Garscube Rd has one small step but there is level access from the rear entrance, accessed via the Firhill Rd carpark.

The toilet is not fully Doc M compliant but has space for a wheelchair and is fitted with a single hand rail.

There is a quieter breakout space separated from the main activity area by a curtained doorway.

Parking: There is free on-street parking to the front entrance and a free carpark at the rear entrance, accessed via Firhill Rd, behind Firhill House. The studio is numbered 814 on the rear door.

Public transport: First busses 60, 60A, 61, Bluebird X10, X10A and West Coast Motors 17 all stop on Maryhill Road just 2 minutes walk away. Kelvinbridge and St Georges Cross underground are both approx 17mins walk.
