From one Pyramid to another…

The year is 1993 - before the BBC arrived, before phone masts, biometric tickets and wall-to-wall coverage. A hundred thousand people in a field, completely unobserved, completely themselves. A group of young film-makers captured the whole thing in rich, glorious Cinemascope: not the headline acts on the Pyramid Stage, but the real festival — the stone circle at sunrise, the rave tents and wandering performers, the parachute games and the Krishna food queues. The Verve in their very first festival appearance. Spiritualized spending their entire fee on a fireworks display. Porno For Pyros. The Orb. The Lemonheads.

For the 30th anniversary, the film has been rebuilt in 4K from the original camera materials. Thirty years on, it is a record not just of a festival but of a country that no longer exists in quite the same way.

We'll be joined for a pre-film discussion and Q&A with Jill Furmanovsky, an award-winning British music photographer, beginning her career in 1972 as the in-house photographer for London’s Rainbow Theatre. She’s captured iconic shots of legendary acts including Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, Oasis and many many more. Jill has kindly allowed us to exhibit two of her Glastonbury ‘joiner’ images, as part of the wider Pyramid Weekender.

Individual tickets are priced on a sliding scale, and we want our screenings to be accessible. If cost is a barrier, please get in touch with [email protected] to request a free ticket. Please note that we have a limited number of free tickets allocated per screening.

Tickets can also be bought on-the-door by card or cash on the day, subject to availability.

Unreserved seating. If you have any access requirements, please contact so we can make arrangements. Our venue is fully accessible, and we can supply a free carer’s ticket.

Please be aware this film is rated 15 by the BBFC. You must be 15 years or older to attend.

The 2026 BFI FAN UK-wide season, Rip It Up, explores and celebrates the changing face of youth rebellion, culture and expression – from joy to heartbreak – on screen in the UK.

As part of the season, The Pyramid at Anderston presents Rip It Up at The Pyramid Weekender, co-curated with Ken McCluskey (The Bluebells) and in partnership with Street Level Photoworks.

A packed weekend of film, music, photography and special guests, with our host and MC for the weekend, Alistair Braidwood, including: an exhibition drawn from the archives of Harry Papadopolous, Glastonbury images by Jill Furmanovsky, exclusive event screenings, a special walk with Glasgow Music City Tour, book signings, live performance, print your own merch and memorabilia with Print Clan and Letterspace, pop up portrait studio, live DJ sets and a vinyl, books and merchandise fair, will take over the iconic Pyramid on Friday 25th, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September.
