Mosaics were popular with the Greeks, but it was during the Roman Empire that they evolved into an elaborate art form. Contemporary artists continue the tradition today, blending an ancient technique with conceptual concerns. Join MAWA in exploring this compelling material of reflection and light, and learn some basic skills to incorporate glass mosaics into your artistic practice.
This workshop will provide an introduction to making glass mosaics. Prairie Studio Glass will provide glass working tools, a board to mount your mosaic, tile grout and sheet glass. Each participant is asked to come to class with an 8" x 8" image that they wish to replicate in glass, safety glasses (required), a work apron or older clothing, closed-toe footwear (required) and a small tote in which to transport your finished piece. If you would like to bring your lunch, there is a fridge.
