Glass Appliqué with Lisa COAST Funded by Swansea Council

In this two-hour workshop, participants will learn the basics of creating a decorative glass appliqué using colourful pieces of glass and simple design techniques. The class is suitable for beginners as well as those with some previous experience who would like to develop their creative skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The session begins with a short introduction to glass appliqué, including examples of finished work and an overview of the materials and tools used. Safety procedures for handling glass will be explained before participants are guided through the process of selecting a design. Simple templates will be available, or students may create their own uncomplicated pattern.

Once the design has been chosen, participants will learn how to arrange pre-cut glass pieces to achieve balance, colour harmony, and texture. Guidance will be provided throughout the creative process, with individual support available to help refine each project. Attention will also be given to composition, layering, and the effective use of decorative glass elements to produce an attractive finished piece.

As the projects take shape, students will have the opportunity to experiment with different colours and finishes while gaining confidence in working with glass. The tutor will demonstrate useful techniques and offer practical tips to encourage creativity and improve results.

By the end of the workshop, each participant will have completed a unique glass appliqué ready for the next stage of finishing, along with the knowledge and confidence to continue exploring this enjoyable craft. All essential materials and equipment will be provided unless otherwise stated. Participants are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing suitable for a practical art session. No previous experience is required, and everyone is welcome to enjoy this creative and rewarding introduction to glass appliqué.
