About ISBE Engaged Scholarship CoI
The Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE) is a network for people and organisations involved in small business and entrepreneurship research, policy, practice, education, support and advice. They hold a yearly academic conference with 2025's conference being jointly hosted by the Strathclyde University and University of Glasgow on the theme of "Collaborating across Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: opportunities for inclusion, innovation, sustainability, resilience and growth". In that spirit the community of interest group for Engage Scholarship, a group of academics interested in doing research with communities rather than on communities, is delighted to have our first event in collaboration with People Planet Pastry.
- Supporting People, Planet, Pastry reflects our belief that meaningful research is created with communities through listening, dialogue and collaboration.
- It aligns with our commitment to sustainability as a shared challenge requiring diverse voices and joint action.
- It embodies the spirit of engaged scholarship: bringing people together across sectors to learn from and with one another.
About CREME
Founded in 2004, the Centre for Research in Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship (CREME) at Aston Uni is an internationally recognised research centre dedicated to advancing inclusive entrepreneurship through engaged scholarship. Combining academic rigour with real-world collaboration, CREME partners with policymakers, businesses, and communities to co-produce knowledge that drives equitable enterprise development and transforms the support available to underrepresented entrepreneurs.
They're supporting People Planet Pastry because:
- Advancing inclusive entrepreneurship - Supporting People, Planet, Pastry aligns with CREME’s mission to champion inclusive entrepreneurship. It brings together diverse small businesses that are driving change from the ground up - exactly where inclusive, sustainable growth begins.
- Connecting research with real impact - As a centre built on engaged scholarship, CREME supports initiatives that turn academic insights into action. People, Planet, Pastry provides a living example of how collaboration and knowledge-sharing can help small firms embed sustainability in daily practice.
- Strengthening communities through sustainable enterprise By backing this movement, CREME reinforces its commitment to enterprise that benefits both people and the planet - fostering resilient, ethical, inclusive and connected local economies.
