About this Event
Join Us for the Glasgow Coat of Arms Exhibition Launch!
An exhibition by Dr Caroline Scott
Govanhill Baths Archive & Heritage Project is delighted to host Dr Caroline Scott's Glasgow Coat of Arms exhibition. This is a crowd-sourced, inclusive, online digital archiving project which began life in 2018. Contributors are invited to share their images of Glasgow’s Coat of Arms from around the City and beyond. The Coat of Arms was formally adopted by the City in 1866 and since then the famous bird, fish, tree and bell of St Kentigern (also known as St Mungo), the city’s Founding Father, has been forever reinterpreted.
There are now over 1500 images. This exhibition explores emerging themes including ‘Sanctuary City’ and ‘Non-Conformity’ - in a time of ‘everywhere cityscapes’ and ubiquitous global branding, our enjoyment of our own ‘brand’ shows the playfulness Glaswegians can apply to pretty much anything!!!
Introduced by Paula Larkin, Archivist, Govanhill Baths. Presentations Dr Caroline Scott and Dr Mandy McIntosh - Keeping Glasgow in Cables. Followed by Q&A.
Free, all welcome, refreshments will be served.
The exhibition runs weekdays from Monday 5 December – Friday 6 February, 12noon – 5pm.
