Meeting point: entrance to Kibble Palace
Come along with SMESCM for a stroll around Glasgow Botanic Gardens and hear more about how colonial agents, networks, and indigenous knowledge influenced the Gardens’ development! We’ll have a conversation and a think together about how the gardens’ collection reflects the theme of transplanting the empire, ideologically and humanly, and how it serves as a metaphor for Glasgow’s long history of migration and diversity.
Following the tour, join us at Hillhead Library for refreshments and a roundtable session to reflect on the tour’s narratives and messaging, to share your own stories and thoughts, and to debrief and decompress collectively!
NOTE: the tour is an outdoor event and will involve some uphill and downhill walking. Please wear comfortable attire, bring refreshments and (potentially) sunscreen, and be aware that we will be walking among plants with potential exposure to allergens, insects, and extreme weather. Potentially sensitive matter may be discussed.
This event is part of the Glasgow 2026 Festival, made possible thanks to funding from Commonwealth Sport, Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and Summer of Sport.
Spaces are limited: please register for the event through the eventbrite link
