Give your pumpkins and jack-o'-lanterns an afterlife...as compost! Bring them to the northwest corner of Oakton Street and Floral Avenue on Sunday, November 1, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., across the street from the Skokie Farmers' Market.
Why compost: Composting pumpkins and other organic materials diverts them from the landfill, preventing harmful methane pollution generated when they decompose. Learn more about composting options in Skokie.
Pumpkin guidelines: Painted pumpkins are fine, but please remove ribbons, googly eyes, or anything that isn’t compostable.
Learn more: Check out scarce.org to learn more about composting or watch “The Great Pumpkin Problem.”
Every pumpkin counts! Help the Village of Skokie SMASH our record!
