Girls, Gays & Guns

Whether this is your first time ever considering getting near a firearm—much less stepping onto a gun range—or you grew up with guns in your home, this is an opportunity for the girls, gays, and gun experts of South Austin to get together for a day at the range to learn, practice, and share the skills necessary to feel confident and safe with firearms.

These events are designed to create a welcoming space for women, queer people, and supportive allies who are curious about firearms but may not always feel comfortable entering traditional gun spaces. Together we’ll build practical knowledge around safe handling and responsible ownership while learning from one another and strengthening a community grounded in safety, education, and mutual respect.

Info: We’ll meet in the gravel parking lot outside the range so everyone can arrive together. This gives us a chance to introduce ourselves and make sure no one has to walk in alone.

Info: Once everyone has arrived, we’ll head inside together to sign range waivers and complete any required check-in.

Info: Participants who need to rent or select a firearm can do so at this time. Experienced participants can help newer shooters choose something comfortable to start with. The range staff will provide the required safety orientation and instructions during this step.

Info: We’ll split into small groups of 2–3 people so everyone has plenty of time and space to practice.

Groups will spend time on the range practicing basic safety, handling, and shooting fundamentals. More experienced participants will help guide beginners in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Info: After range time, we’ll regroup outside to check in, share takeaways, and answer any final questions. Depending on interest, we may grab food or drinks nearby afterward.
