Ginko Haiku Inspired Poetic Walk
About this Event
GINKO — A Haiku-Inspired Poetic Walk Middlesex Greenway | Sunday, June 28 | Meet at 11:00 am
What is Ginko? Ginko (吟行) is a Japanese tradition in which a group of poets walk together through a natural landscape, pausing to observe, absorb, and write. The walk is not a hike in the athletic sense — it is slow and attentive, more akin to meditation in motion. The goal is not to produce a polished poem on the spot, but to be present enough that the landscape offers one to you.
On June 28, Haiku Poet Spencer Soletton and Basecamp Studio & Gallery invite you to step off the paved path and into something wilder. We'll gather at Basecamp at 315 Main St, then make our way to the undeveloped western stretch of the Middlesex Greenway — an unpaved, untamed corridor of native growth, birdsong, and quiet. No joggers, no bike traffic. Just the trail, the light, and whatever words arise.
No poetry experience necessary. Bring a notebook, wear comfortable shoes, and come ready to slow down.

How It Works There is no agenda and no pressure. Walk at your own pace. Pause when something catches your attention. Sit with it. Write if words come. If they don't, that's fine too — observation is its own practice. At the end of the walk, there will be an informal opportunity to share what you noticed or wrote. Participation is entirely optional.
Meetup discussion of haiku poetry and haiku activities at Basecamp Studio & Gallery (10-15min)
· A haiku field guide (basics of haiku zine) will be provided
· Discuss 5 sample haiku
Taking a walk for poetic inspiration and writing (45-60 minutes)
· Walking with casual conversation and observation
· Welcome to take photos and notes along the way but hope all can refrain from social media and phone calls during the session.
Writing, sharing poems the group wrote and discussing (30-45 minutes) back at Basecamp.
· A quiet focus on writing
· Share our poetry one verse at a time
· Participants can choose to write their favorite poem of theirs on a card to be collected for a shared zine of the event
Afterward Spencer typically brews some tea, and everyone is welcome to join and continue to chat about the experience.
