Screening of G&B School Vintage Films6:30pm Thursday June 11 at the Wilton Library
The G&B School has been in the news lately and debates are ongoing about its possible fate. Come learn about the school’s history, enjoy some wine and cheese, and take advantage of this opportunity to have your questions answered by leaders of the Georgetown Community Association and local historian and archivist Julie Hughes, PhD, of the Wilton History Room.
Edited together and set to music (50 minutes long), these charming color films of the G&B School were recorded between 1946 and 1951. They show schoolchildren playing outside, dancing in the auditorium, putting on puppet shows and plays, and learning their lessons. The films were likely made using a movie camera purchased for the school by the Georgetown PTA in the mid-1940s. A copy of the films on VHS was later gifted to the Georgetown Community Association by Margaret (Mead) Bens. Digitization was done in the Wilton History Room.
This event is presented by the Georgetown Community Association with the Wilton Historical Society.
