About
Gila Hank's Sprint Triathlon comprises a 75-yard swim, 6-mile bike, and 1.5-mile run. Whether you choose to do the entire triathlon solo or join forces with a relay team (swimmer, cyclist, or runner), the goal is the same: safely finish the race, enjoy the experience, forge new friendships, and become part of something extraordinary!
Participants in Gila Hank’s Sprint Triathlon will receive a unique t-shirt, a one-of-a-kind triathlon medallion, a comprehensive race packet, and their overall time at the finish. To aid recovery, water and fruit will be provided. The event is made possible by the support of volunteers, sponsors, and the community. For a nominal fee, on-campus overnight camping near EAC’s John Mickelson Stadium is available. Vendors will be onsite when available.
Gila Hank’s Sprint Triathlon is committed to inclusivity, welcoming individuals with physical or developmental disabilities. Participants with diagnosed disabilities that can be reasonably accommodated are encouraged to join. Our aim is to support everyone in reaching the finish line by allowing reasonable assistance. During the registration process, there will be an opportunity to provide details and request necessary accommodations.

Participant must be over the age of 11 to register.

Please Note: Gila Hank's Triathlon is a nonrefundable event. All sales are final. There are no refunds or exchanges on completed orders. Please be sure you have selected the proper event and ticket prior to completing your order.

Overview
Before the triathlon begins, participants are required to set up their bikes at assigned times in the South Campus east Parking Lot, located east of the Gym (look for the Bike Racks). Afterward, check-in at the information booth area to collect your timing chip and attend a safety briefing. The information booth area is situated at the WEST side of the south campus parking lot, next to the tennis courts near 111 N. Stadium Avenue, Thatcher, Arizona, 85546, where body marking and bike inspection will take place.
For participants unable to check in on Friday evening, you can get your race number drawn on your leg and pick up the race packet and chip timer at the information booth area. This booth is also located at the west side of the south campus parking lot, next to the tennis courts near 111 N. Stadium Avenue, Thatcher, Arizona, 85546.
Triathlon Details
- Race starts with a 75-yard pool swim at 7 a.m. with young racers and those who require accommodation starting their swim first.
- Swimmers will transition to the east South Campus parking lot near EAC’s Guitteau Gymnasium to the bike staging area.
- Bikers will head north on College Avenue on a predetermined route for 6 miles, finishing back on College Avenue on the east side of South Campus near the bike rack and transition to run staging area.
- Runners will leave west out of the parking lot, then north on Stadium Avenue, following a predetermined route for approximately 1.5 miles, eventually winding through campus and ending at the finish line at EAC’s Clock Tower on Middle Campus.
- Medallions will be given to participants as they complete the triathlon.
- A recovery station will be near the finish line area for triathletes.
- Timing of participants will be done electronically with time strips at each staging area start/finish.
Parking
Parking will be available at the following locations:
- North Campus at Mark Allen parking lot off Stadium Ave.
- Parking lot east of EAC’s Activities Center (dirt lot).
- Parking lot west of EAC’s Student Services Building.
- Parking lots east of the EAC’s Clock Tower.
- EAC’s John Mickelson Stadium parking lot.
- On Saturday, parking along Railroad Drive between Stadium Avenue and College Avenue will be available.
- Prior to the start of the Triathlon at 7 a.m., parking is allowed in the west parking lot next to the tennis courts. No exit or entrance from this parking area is allowed once the Triathlon begins until it is over (approximately 10 a.m.)
- Parking is not available in the lots east of EAC’s gym and South Campus buildings (bike and run staging areas).
Camping
- Camping areas will be available for a nominal $5 per person fee
- Located at the adjacent practice field and grass areas to EAC’s John Mickelson Stadium - not on the main field
- It's okay yo play on practice field not on the main field.
- Porta-Jons will be available at field area and other locations on race route.
- Lights out at 10 p.m.

Please read this Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability carefully and in its entirety. It is a binding legal document. If you are under the age of 18, you may only agree with the consent of your parent or legal guardian. Please be sure your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and discussed the Acknowledgement of Risk Agreement for Eastern Arizona College’s Gila Hank’s Sprint Triathlon
Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability:
I know that participating in the Gila Hank’s Sprint Triathlon is a potentially hazardous activity, and I should not enter and participate unless I am medically able and properly trained. I acknowledge and assume any and all risks associated with this event including, but not limited to, traffic on the course route, falls, contact with other participants, and the condition of the course, including, but not limited to, curbs, cars, uneven pavement, potholes, rocks, and objects on the course surface. Knowing and appreciating these risks and in consideration of your acceptance of my entry, I hereby for myself, my heirs, representatives or anyone else claiming on my behalf, covenant not to sue, and waive, release, and discharge the Graham County Community College District dba Eastern Arizona College (EAC), their volunteers, sponsors, and anyone else acting for or on behalf of Eastern Arizona College’s Gila Hank’s Sprint Triathlon from any and all claims of liability for death, personal injury, or damage of any kind arising out of my participation in this run.
This Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability extends to all claims of every kind whatsoever. I also consent to emergency treatment in the event of injury or illness. I grant full permission to Eastern Arizona College, or any person or entity authorized by it to use my name, age, date of birth, finish place and finish time in the public domain. I further grant full permission for Eastern Arizona College to use any photographs, recordings, or any other record of this event for any marketing purpose.
Parent or Guardian Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability for all participants under the age of 18:
I certify that I am the parent or legal guardian of the above-named participant in the Eastern Arizona College Gila Hank’s Sprint Triathlon. On behalf of myself and my spouse, partner, co-guardian, or any other person who claims the participant as a dependent, I have read the above agreement, I understand the contents of this Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability, assent to its terms and conditions, and sign this Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability of my own free act. I acknowledge that my dependent and I have agreed to the terms and conditions of my dependent’s participation in Eastern Arizona College’s Gila Hank’s Sprint Triathlon, and I hereby give my consent to participation by my dependent in the Eastern Arizona College’s Gila Hank’s Sprint Triathlon, and to receive medical treatment determined to be necessary. I further agree to hold harmless, indemnify and defend the GRAHAM COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT dba EASTERN ARIZONA COLLEGE from and against all claims, demands or suits that my dependent has or may have. In clicking the checkbox of the Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver Liability I hereby acknowledge and represent: (a) that I have read this document in its entirety, understand it, and sign it voluntarily; and (b) that this Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability is the entire agreement between the parties hereto and its terms are contractual and not a mere recital.
