They are big and some of them are clever (not many though!). Europe used to be thick with them.From Greek Zeus to Scandinavian Thor and from Cornwall’s Jack the Hammer to the northern Molly Whuppie, Gods and humans have waged a devastating series of single combats against large and grotesque beings with dubious manners. In many myths the giants come first, often preceding even the gods themselves, frequently waiting for the human explorers of new lands.
Often a force of oppression, representing the tyranny of might, some have their beginnings in the power of nature, some in actual people who have been exaggerated over the years and some we can only guess at.
