After the members of a team of scientists (Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray) lose their cushy positions at a New York City university, they decide to become paranormal investigators, using their inventions to remove ghosts from haunted buildings for money. After some initial skepticism, business is soon booming as the team gets called on again and again. The increased spiritual activity becomes centered on the high-rise apartment of one of their first clients, and when it becomes linked to prophecies about an ancient god of destruction, only the Ghostbusters stand in the way of the end of the world.
