Join us for our first visit to The Merchant's House in Marlborough. This fabulous venue has a fair few spine chilling tales and is an abundance of ghostly activity. The 17th-century silk merchant's home, is reputedly haunted by spirits including a "Boy in Blue" on the stairs, a "Green Lady," and a man identified as Samuel. Visitors and staff have reported cold spots, unexplained footsteps, and doors opening on their own.
The 1970s Exorcism: When the building housed a WH Smith, the resident manager's family was plagued by disturbances, including a smashed glazed screen. An attempted exorcism by a priest allegedly forced the spirits to move next door, though reports suggest they have returned to the Merchant's House.
The Great Fire of Marlborough in 1653 devastated much of the town’s High Street, fueled by a fierce west wind. Over 150 houses, including those on both the south and north sides, were consumed by the flames. Among the casualties was The Merchant’s House, belonging to Thomas Bayly who tragically lost all in the blaze. However, The Merchant’s House was rebuilt between 1653 and 1700.
