In this program, the timeless compositions of Joe Hisaishi are reimagined for a jazz piano trio (piano, double bass, and drums), blending familiar melodies with jazz elements, improvisation, and intimate trio interplay. Featuring beloved themes from Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro and many more, the trio honours the spirit of the originals while inviting listeners into a new world of rhythm, harmony and boundless imagination.

Pianist and composer Russell Tay graduated from the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music (Monash University) with first-class honours, winning the prize for Best Overall Student and the Bornstein Jazz Piano prize. Russell has showcased his talents both locally and overseas (Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Singapore's Jazz in July Festival). A performer of both classical and jazz music in various projects, Russell is an in-demand musician with numerous sold-out shows to his name.
