About this Event

🌟 Discover the power of lived-experience led training! Our participants are sharing incredible stories of transformation and growth. 🌱✨

For families of young disabled people, the journey to adulthood can be full of both excitement and challenges. For success, the young person, the parents and the professionals helping them need to work together but, sometimes tension arises creating misunderstandings, missed opportunities, and unnecessary stress.

Fear not, our lived-experience insights, and a solution-focused approach, will help you foster positive collaboration, ensuring that everyone feels heard, supported, and confident as the young person moves toward greater independence.

Format:

In this 1-day course, you will hear powerful stories from young people with additional needs and their parents, so you can gain new insight and collect proven tips on what can help or hinder the journey to independence. All our impactful courses are co-led by the ARC Scotland Associates with real lived-experience.

Audience:

This inspiring course is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for all professionals and parent/carers supporting young disabled people towards independence.

Learning Outcomes:

Lived-experience led training will always stick with you. In this authentic learning journey you’ll:

Our trainers

Alexander Warren - is an actor, a teacher and a Hearts fan (please don’t hold that against him!). He aims to inspire people to follow their dreams no matter how big or small, and his inspirational personal reflections will ensure your learning remains grounded in the experiences of young people and their families.

Dave Warren is a retired computer scientist. His son Alexander inspires people across Scotland by sharing his life story and experiences of living with a learning disability; Dave brings the ‘parent’s view’.

Scott Richardson-Read - works on the Scottish Transitions Forum primarily working with a group of young people called the Divergent Influencers ensuring disabled and autistic voices are heard.
