Join us for an organising meeting to explore forming an independent community-led group to develop an Expression of Interest for the UK Town of Culture 2028 competition. This is a public meeting for anyone who wants to be actively involved in shaping and organising the bid — from developing our story and cultural vision, to engaging local organisations, gathering ideas, and planning next steps, including working towards a full submission if we are shortlisted.
The idea has the support of key people within the parish, but it is important that the bid itself is led by an independent group, bringing together residents, creatives, community groups, and local organisations. This meeting is about forming that group, discussing how it could work, and identifying who would like to be involved.
Please note: being involved does not mean we are declaring ourselves a town or a village, nor does it imply any legal or administrative change. (There is no legal definition or practical difference between a town and a village in the context of this competition.)
The UK Town of Culture programme invites places across the country to celebrate what makes them distinctive, build local pride, and create a shared cultural ambition with lasting impact.
If you care about culture, community, and helping shape a strong bid, we’d love you to come along.
