Club Curling
Last year’s trip back to the 90s makes way for this season’s vibrant neon playground as London’s hottest festive fixture returns to Coal Drops Yard for 2024.
The energy and bright lights of God’s Own Junkyard’s Walthamstow warehouse will be recreated in the Club Curling bar welcoming visitors to stay a while enjoy a warming winter drink and soak up the Christmas lights on steroids both before and after their play on the sustainable curling lanes. The electrifying installation will also include a bespoke neon ‘King’s Cross Is Always A Good Idea’ sign made in collaboration with @RealHackneyDave a partnership that continues from the summer’s Riviera-themed Souvenir Shop.
Teams of up to six people per lane can play at Club Curling from 12pm to 9pm every day (last slot 8pm) with sessions lasting 45 minutes. Avid curlers will be able to enjoy the six colourful sustainable curling lanes for just £9 per person (children under 12 play for free when accompanied by an adult) making it the perfect activity for the whole family to enjoy this festive season.
This year a donation from each ticket sale will be go to local charities Global Generation and New Horizon Youth Centre.
Global Generation is an educational charity that works with local children and young people businesses residents and families to co-create gardens across Camden Islington and Southwark aiming to showcase how disused urban spaces can become an oasis for plants and people to grow. New Horizon Youth Centre is a local youth homelessness charity which is on a mission to give young people’s potential a home.
In 2022 and 2023 almost £30000 was raised for New Horizon and Shelter the national homelessness charity which has a store in Coal Drops Yard.
Club Curling players are encouraged to pre-book online to avoid disappointment. Some lanes may be available on a ‘turn up and play’ basis.
Christmas trees
Coal Drops Yard will once again see a 50-foot traditional Christmas tree arrive in time for the festive season wrapped with thousands of twinkly sustainable pea lights for all to enjoy.
Liliane Lijn’s much-loved ‘Temenos’ installation will also return to Lewis Cubitt Square in November. The immersive 11-metre-high geometric winter sculpture comprises 19 neon poles which gradually change colour from a beautiful golden yellow to a cool winter blue.
Winter art
A brand-new fun and festive winter art installation on Granary Square is soon to be unveiled as part of King’s Cross’ annual series of winter installations and festive trees commissioned as part of its ongoing commitment to art and culture in the neighbourhood. Keep an eye out for further details coming soon!
