About this Event

From the cool green canopy of Maple, Birch and Oak to the bustling world of the pond ecosystem, come enjoy this botanical masterpiece. Learn how the colorful Koi came to be here (reminders of the delicate relationship between people and nature), watch for Great Blue Herons, and admire swaths of native wildflowers.

Whether you're a birdwatcher, a plant lover, or just need a breath of fresh air, there’s a surprise around every bend—from sun-bathing turtles to the rare glimpse of a river otter (honestly, more likely an industrious muskrat). It's all here waiting for you!

This 90-minute tour is designed for all visitors. It covers approximately half a mile, follows step-free, compacted stone or wood-plank paths (minimum width of 36”), and contains gentle grades. Benches are located at regular intervals for rest and viewing (traversing mown grass is optional). Join this guided tour and see Ithaca’s biodiversity in action! Walk will be held rain or shine; please dress appropriately for the weather. Pre-registration required as space is limited.

Fee: $12 general admission; Free for Cornell Botanic Gardens Access Pass holders and Cornell Students.

Instructor: Dana Kruser, Garden Guide

Location: Meet at the parking area next to Houston Pond and the Sculpture Garden, in the central part of the Arboretum. Click here for a Google map showing meeting location.
