Raptors are notoriously difficult to identify in the field. Often they are seen soaring at a distance or perched high up on a telephone pole as you drive past at 65 miles per hour. With phrases such as "patagial markings", "carpal patch", "scapular v", and "feathered tarsii," it is no wonder that beginners get frustrated with learning all the field marks for identifying raptors. But what if there was an easier way?Join Aron Smolley at Front Range Birding Company Boulder on Friday, November 8th at 6:00pm for this crash course in getting to know the common raptors of Boulder County. The holistic approach we will discuss at this workshop will help simplify the process of identification through elimination, context, general impression, and behavior. With enough practice, you will be identifying raptors as easily as recognizing an old friend!
This course will run about 1 1/2 hours with time for questions, and is geared towards beginners. Please bring a notebook and paper and your smartphone to take pictures of slides if desired.
Call 303-979-2475 to sign up as seats are limited.
