About this Event
Please note that this class is not geared towards beginners. Inspection basics are not covered during this training.
This two-day Advanced Home Inspection Training Class at the House of Horrors® will cover the following, including:
- Electrical Systems (panels, bonding and grounding, and age-related issues, such as arc faults, etc.);
- Plumbing Systems (including private well/septic systems, and issues related to the water supply and waste lines, etc.);
- Heating Systems;
- Structural Issues (common masonry cracks, and how to identify normal settling vs. structural issues that need further evaluation);
- EIFS and Modern Synthetic Stucco Systems; and
- Inspection Protocol (to minimize your liability and increase your referrals).
The Advanced Class provides deeper instruction and information that goes beyond a simple visual inspection. This can be particularly helpful with knowledgeable and inquisitive clients.
The first day covers a deep dive into stucco inspections using the stuccoed panels and other siding samples for hands-on examination. Many of the things that we see with stucco are things we see in other exterior cladding systems. Then, we’ll dive into HVAC with our examples of furnaces and boilers. We cover a variety of issues and questions. For example, the reasons for flue clearances aren't as simple as many think. What are the differences and problems with flue materials for high-efficiency appliances? And more. And there are usually discussions of business topics and other inspection concerns.
The second day covers plumbing in-depth, including problematic plumbing materials, scald temperatures, plumbing codes, water heater flue issues, and well system operations.
The electrical portion provides a detailed inspection checklist of electrical panels and electrical panel defect recognition, grounding and bonding, GFCI and AFCI requirements, and aluminum wiring issues.
The class also covers the installation and proper flashing of James Hardie and LP Smartside siding, roof flashing requirements, advanced structural issues, and roof truss issues.
