Speaker and Learning Opportunity
At every meeting we will have a guest speaker who will share valuable insights and knowledge with those attending. Our speaker for this event is Pippa Reeve and Karen Thomson, Warwickshire Community and Voluntary Action (WCAVA)
As an infrastructure organisation, one of WCAVA's main roles is to support volunteering, both in terms of people seeking volunteering opportunities and organisations needing help to recruit volunteers. We also support planning for volunteer involvement and helping with best practice. We achieve this in a variety of ways, including via our online volunteer portal, attending numerous events, working with referral partners and providing opportunities for one-to-one support. We also work with businesses to find suitable volunteering opportunities for their staff.
Pippa and Karen will be sharing their knowledge and talking about - Volunteers: Making The Most Of The Support Available And How To Access It
In this talk, Pippa and Karen will provide more detail about some of these areas and how your organisations can get involved.
Pippa has worked in the voluntary and community sector across the Midlands for many years. In her current role as Delivery and Development Manager for WCAVA, she manages a team of colleagues across Mid and South Warwickshire, supporting WCAVA's delivery programmes.
Karen has a varied background in the voluntary sector and the NHS in South Yorkshire. After moving to Shipston On Stour in 2023, Karen started working for WCAVA as the Volunteer Coordinator in Stratford District. Karen supports voluntary organisations with their volunteering programme and to recruit volunteers. She also helps people to find suitable volunteer roles and start their volunteering journey.

What is the Social Economy?
The social economy is a term used to describe ventures or communities of like minded individuals, that collectively work together and towards a people based or environmental goal.
These communities and ventures put ‘purpose before personal profit’ and any trading surplus is reinvested to support the cause at hand. Established in 1982, Coventry and Warwickshire Co-operative Development Agency (CWCDA) offer free, high quality and professional support to help people create and sustain all types of social enterprises. They also offer employment advice and deliver a range of other services that promote financial and economic inclusion.

Socially Shared Business Network, is a successful women’s network, established in 2015. The network, is well known for professional but relaxed meetings, where people come together to connect, share knowledge, do business and offer support. A team of area hosts facilitate meetings at twelve different locations across the Midlands each month.
