Get Jazzed! is more than a class. It is a small-ensemble jazz experience built around coaching, collaboration, and community.
Last season, the program was full throughout the year. Musicians gained new skills, worked through real musical challenges, performed for dancers, and helped create the kind of supportive community this program was designed for.
Get Jazzed! is a small-ensemble swing jazz program for adult learners. You will rehearse and learn in a group of 3 to 6 musicians, receive coaching from professional swing jazz musicians, and build confidence playing jazz standards in a collaborative setting.
This program is for adult learners with a basic working knowledge of their instrument. You do not need previous jazz experience.
Your registration includes:
-weekly small-ensemble sessions
-coaching from professional swing jazz musicians
-opportunities to play with a pro
-ongoing participant-centred coaching and support
-music theory classes (3 levels to match your individual needs)
-rhythm, music history, and rudimentary dance workshops
-free access to, and back by popular demand, Everyone Can Jazz Jam at 6pm
-a formal showcase after the final week of each series
Schedule:
Tuesdays, 7:00pm - 9:30pm
New Westminster Secondary School, Band Room
(optional, free access to Everyone Can Jazz Jam at 6:00 pm - 6:45 pm)
Fall 1 - 6 weeks, September 8 to October 13, Bill Abbott (saxophone) will be the guest clinician in this series
Fall 2 - 7 weeks, October 20 to December 1
Please note: Dates are tentative and will be confirmed once scheduling is finalized.
Registration:
Full Fall registration opens on Wednesday, June 3
$490 for Fall 1 and Fall 2, combined
Fall 1 only, registration opens June 26, if spaces remain
$246 for Fall 1
