This seems like a fitting quote for Chris Coull's new jazz suite that’s inspired by George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. Since it was first staged in 1935, Porgy and Bess has held the imagination of audiences, with new generations drawn to one of the most iconic pieces of American opera of the 20th Century.
The combination of YTV Prize-winning Coull and two-time Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2024 nominee, vocalist Imogen Ryall gives “Songs From Porgy and Bess” an unmatched pedigree. What they bring to the #worldheartbeat stage is such a deeply rich understanding and appreciation of jazz, its power to connect with audiences and continue to inspire them.
The show will also feature John Turville (piano), Simon Thorpe (bass), and Matt Fishwick (drums).
