Germania Almrausch Used Clothing Drive (collect now, drop off June 27, 2026, clothing and more)

Reduce, reuse, recycle… help us keep clothing (and more) out of the trash; out of landfills and waste streams. We are thinking ahead to everyone’s spring cleaning and purging projects at home. Over the next few weeks, collect and set aside in bags your unwanted clothing, shoes, accessories and textile household items then donate them to our organization, Germania Almrausch Schuhplatter Verein, at our drop off clothing drive event.
WHEN: Saturday June 27, 2026 between 8am – 12 noon.
WHERE: Germania Pavilion, 51 Old DeGarmo Rd, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 (Dutchess County).
ITEMS COLLECTED: clothing, coats, sneakers, shoes, purses, backpacks, belts, briefcases, hats, gloves, ties, scarves, socks, blankets, sheets, drapes, curtains, bedspreads, towels, tablecloths, bath rugs and stuffed animals. We ask for everything to be in well-tied 13 or 33-gallon trash bags (ideally separated into categories (clothing, footwear/accessories, household items and stuffed animals) but not required. Drop off is only on June 27, 2026 between 8am-12noon.
GOAL: 175 bags.
WHY: It is a fundraiser for our organization but it is also an effort to reduce waste and give your cast offs another life. The EPA estimates each person in the US generates about 70 pounds of unwanted clothing and shoes per year! It can take 200+ years for textile materials to decompose in a landfill. Decomposing textiles generate greenhouse methane gas and leach toxic chemicals and dyes into the groundwater and our soil. Synergy In-Kind Donation Management will send items we collect here and around the world to support people in need of wearable used clothing and other items, and items not suitable for reuse are recycled. 45% is reused as apparel both here and abroad. 30% of recovered textiles are cut into wiping rags or polishing. 20% is reprocessed into its basic fiber content, then remanufactured into insulation. 5% is unusable if materials are wet, moldy or contaminated with solvents.
