An urban geology walk in London led by Diana Clements of London Geodiversity Partnership, part of the Geologists' Association Festival of Geology weekend.Lesnes Abbey Woods is famous for its Fossil Pit that has been the source of small mammal bones representing 47 different species. By far more numerous are the fossil shark teeth and a variety of molluscs. The geotrail will stop briefly at the Fossil Pit and will visit the old quarry of Chalky Dell but it will be a round-trip also looking at the geology in general (Chalk, Thanet Sand and Blackheath Beds in particular) and discuss the affect that the geology has had on the siting of Lesnes Abbey and other features. We will finish at the Chestnut Kiosk near the Abbey.
Tickets £5. Non-members welcome but pre-booking essential.
