About this Event
The Stream Habitat and Visual Survey Workshop is intended to train volunteers how to assess a stream by rating parameters such as channel bottom materials, sinuosity, bank stability, streamside vegetation, and more. Stream habitat includes the physical and chemical conditions of the ecosystem and plays a large role in the aquatic life you will find. By conducting the visual survey and cross section, you will be able to quantitatively document the condition of the stream habitat and the riparian zone at that given point in time. When conducting these surveys on a quarterly basis, any changes in the stream’s health will be apparent in your data.
Participants do not need to be currently active or certified in the Adopt-A-Stream monitoring program to participate in this workshop, but should bring a good sense of humor and a willingness to share thoughts and ideas about assessing a stream. Please bring water, snacks, and dress for the weather, sunscreen, hats, jacket etc. If possible, waterproof boots. The Watershed Stewardship Program has a limited supply and sizes of water boots to loan for this workshop.
