Join the John Brown House Museum, a Rhode Island Historical Society museum, in welcoming Research Librarian at the George Washington Presidential Library, Samantha Snyder, for George Washington in Rhode Island on Tuesday, March 24th, at 5:30 pm.April of 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of George Washington’s visit to Providence, RI. To mark this occasion, Snyder will recount Washington’s trip through Providence in early April 1776, the gathering held in his honor, and the people he met, weaving these alongside the broader context of his travels and Rhode Island history.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with the talk starting at 5:30 p.m. Guests may arrive prior to the talk to explore the JBHM and enjoy light refreshments. Advance tickets are recommended as space is limited.
Samantha Snyder is the Research Librarian at the George Washington Presidential Library, at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. Her forthcoming biography on Elizabeth Willing Powel, A Remarkable Woman: Elizabeth Willing Powel and the Founding of the American Republic, who was a close confidant of George Washington and a relative of the Brown family, will be released by the University of Virginia Press in March 2027.
