Course length: 7 weekly sessions, 10.30 am-12.30 pm, field trips 10.30 am-3.30 pm.
Course structure: 2x field trips across the North East. Indoor sessions to be held in NHSN's Council Room located on Floor 2 of the Great North Museum: Hancock.
Course cost: £100 NHSN Members / £125 Non-Members
Course content
This course will be suited to those with little or no geological knowledge. It will begin with how the Earth formed and take you through the processes that turned the planet into what we see today. Subjects such as plate tectonics and the rock cycle, along with a simple classification of rocks, will be explained. Geological structures such as faults and folds will be covered. Global and local examples (where possible) will be used to illustrate the elements included.
Field trips will include a half-day building stones of Newcastle walk to see examples of a wide variety of rocks from around the world. A full day field trip to the coast at Hartley/Seaton Sluice will explore some of our local rocks.
