Geologic History of the SNAKE RIVER PLAIN: Lecture
About this Event
This lecture covers the origin and evolution of the Snake River Plain with emphasis on tectonic and volcanic events. The Snake River Plain has long been recognized as an enigmatic feature with global geologic signi icance. It is also recognized as one of the most important volcanic provinces on Earth. Recent research shows the Snake River Plain was at least partly if not entirely caused by the Yellowstone hotspot. 1pm at Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd. Boise, Idaho 83712. General admission $5, Museuum members free. Pre-registration is required.
There will be a follow-up field trip led by Dr. Maley on August 8 from 8-11am, near and around Table Rock. Home before it's too hot, minimal walking.
