Monthly reggae disco in North-East London. The night is named after sadly departed MC Earl Anthony Robinson, the voice behind classic deejay tunes such as "Drunken Master".For our June session we're excited to welcome Gabby Ochoa to select tunes for us for the first time.
Originally from Ecuador, now living in sunny Scotland, Gabby is a record and memorabilia collector specialised in vintage Jamaican music from the 60s and 70s. She says: "My love for these sounds started when I was a teenager and I’ve never looked back since then. During this time, I’ve developed both my knowledge and own style, with a soft spot for Coxsone and Sonia Pottinger productions, which you’ll see reflected in my selection. You usually find me on the other side of the decks, dancing and singing along. Now I’m thrilled to share the music I love with all the Jamaican music enthusiasts at General Echo. Expect from me sweet tunes, killer tunes, party tunes.. Classic and rare, to keep you dancing all night long!"
We are also blessed this month with a warm-up set from local legend Ray "the thinking man's skinhead". A part of the General Echo Reggae Disco crew since we started, many people will be familiar with his shop Ray's Records in Wood Street Indoor Market. Ray has been collecting ska, rocksteady and other reggae styles since the 1960s, and is a formidable selector, so get down early!
Come and listen to some of the greatest music ever made in a beautiful old school social club.
