The Johnson City Play Reading Collective is excited to announce that our 2026–27 season has been selected, and we are now casting the first three staged readings of the season.
Whether you're an experienced performer or someone who's always wanted to try acting but couldn't commit to months of rehearsals, we'd love to meet you.

Auditions are scheduled in 30-minute time slots, with up to 10 auditioners per slot.

You may prepare:
A short monologue (1–2 minutes), OR
A cold reading from one of the plays
Sides are available in advance upon request.
Theater Without the Huge Commitment
Our staged readings typically require only 1–3 rehearsals followed by a single public performance.
If you've ever wanted to try theater but couldn't commit to the typical 3–4 month rehearsal process, this is a perfect opportunity to get involved.

SEPTEMBER PRODUCTION
The Bridezilla Massacre

Synopsis
Cecilia Debenham, the heiress who lost everything, is marrying an old college friend—something even the wedding party finds suspicious. All that's left of the family fortune is a remote island with a creaky old church and very limited ferry service.
When the wedding planner's assistant is brutally murdered, Cecilia insists the wedding proceed as planned. Family and friends scramble to catch the killer, protect their secrets, and survive long enough to make it off the island alive.
A fast-paced comedy murder mystery packed with secrets, suspects, and surprises.

Synopsis
Tilly's sadness is legendary.
A bank teller with a profound and magnetic melancholy, she has an unusual effect on people: every stranger she meets falls hopelessly in love with her.
But when Tilly unexpectedly becomes happy, the emotional balance of the universe is thrown into chaos. As her former admirers struggle to cope, her hairdresser Frances becomes so melancholy that she literally turns into an almond.
Funny, whimsical, romantic, and delightfully absurd, Melancholy is a modern fairy tale about love, longing, and the strange ways we connect with one another.

The Imperfect History of Andrew Templeton

Synopsis
Andrew Templeton is a young man with autism whose passion for American history makes him the ideal candidate to teach at Jefferson Academy, a school serving students with special needs.
But despite his vast knowledge and remarkable abilities, Andrew struggles with relationships as his need for perfection begins to affect everyone around him.
A thoughtful, moving, and often humorous story about acceptance, growth, family, and finding one's place in the world.
