Celebrate our Spring 2026 issue—in summer! Featuring readings by local authors, an open mic, community, refreshments. All are welcome.
About this Event

Join Geist on Tuesday, July 21 to officially launch issue 132!

This issue is about having the type of face that urges strangers to ask for directions. Uncovering the anatomical layers of a garden island. Oh, the skateboarder’s spiritual connection to a DIY quarterpipe. The point where the moon and morels intersect. Japanese street photography and the act of looking. It’s about many other things, too—discover it all here.

Readings by Geist authors Alex Leslie, Christine Lai, and more.

An open mic will follow, so bring your poems, your bits of lit, your flash fiction, your mini-hybrid pieces, your scraps of non-fiction. We ask that you keep your reading to under 5 minutes, so everyone has a chance to dazzle. Sign up upon arrival :)

The launch is free to attend, though please do register here as space is limited.

The event runs from 6 to 8pm, hosted by Enabling Arts, located at 104-343 Railway Street, Vancouver. Issues of Geist and Geist merch will be available for purchase. Refreshments available, too! The Enabling Arts concession will have light snacks and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) for sale.

About Geist:

magazine began as a 40-page newsprint publication in the living room of founders Stephen Osborne and Mary Schendlinger in 1990. It was established to be articulate, humorous and identifiably Canadian. As a literary magazine of ideas and culture, Geist’s artistic mission is primarily focused on the art and politics of narrative, with its cultural focus being “North of America.” We publish the best that we can find of narrative essays (fiction and non-fiction), poetry, reviews, photography, drawings, comix, puzzles and little-known facts—with a special interest in fresh interactions between text and image. Our mandate is to find and encourage a wide audience for new and established Canadian writers and artists of merit.
