Between 1907 and 1914, about 10,000 Jewish immigrants arrived in the United States through the Port of Galveston. This chapter of history became known as the Galveston Movement, and its impact can still be seen across Texas today.
Moderated by Rabbi Peter Kessler of Temple B’nai Israel, this panel discussion will share the stories of families who left their homes to build new lives in America. Local residents with direct connections to the Galveston Movement will discuss Jewish immigration, family history, and what life was like for Jewish communities in Texas.
This three-part lecture series is in conjunction with America 250 and features respected scholars and community members, the series will explore the fight for civil rights in South Texas, unlikely heroes of the American Revolution, and Jewish immigration to America.
