Gareth E. Rees takes Gary Budden for an underwater odyssey exploring his new book ‘Sunken Lands'
About this Event

We’re thrilled to welcome Gareth E. Rees - one of Voce Books favourite chroniclers of Britain’s curious edgelands - for an evening of conversation with author & publisher Gary Budden about his new book .

Abandoning the car parks, cooling towers, & council estates of his previous books, Gareth this time takes us on an underwater pilgrimage, to look at the landscapes of our deep past as well as those that we are rapidly losing to water. Drawing upon discoveries of Stone Age settlements that slipped under the English Channel, to the rapid inundation of New Orleans, Gareth will show us that our histories are marked by ever-shifting boundaries, & an uncertain relationship between land & water, encouraging us to consider how the underwater worlds of the past tell us much about the shape of our futures.

Gareth E. Rees is the author of ‘Unofficial Britain, longlisted for the Ondaatje Prize and one of The Sunday Times best books of the year 2020. He’s also the author of ‘Car Park Life’, ‘The Stone Tide and ‘Marshland. His first short story collection, ‘Terminal Zones, was published in 2022 & examines the strangeness of everyday life in a time of climate change. He lives in Hastings with his wife and children.

Gary Budden is a writer, editor and co-founder of award-winning independent publisher, Influx Press.
This is one of our ‘Futures’ events - dedicated to non-fiction books that help us to rewire our consciousness & zero in on the ideas that help shape the architecture of our collective futures.

Tickets for the event are free, but we kindly ask that you place a reservation here via our Eventbrite page.
