Re-greening & Gardening Group at The Monastery, Manchester
Aka 'The Green Team'
Every Tuesday, 11am – 2pm throughout the year.
A friendly, hands-on way to care for the land and each other.
Join the Monastery’s gardening group, aka The Green Team, a welcoming group of volunteers who meet weekly to help nurture and develop the emerging Peace Garden within the grounds of Pugin’s beautiful Grade II* listed building. These relaxed, outdoor sessions are open to everyone and no gardening experience is needed.
Expect fresh air, shared purpose and plenty of laughter, alongside a growing connection to the land. Tasks vary with the seasons and may include weeding, planting, sowing seeds, composting, mulching, tidying and the occasional litter pick around the site. The Green Team works in partnership with the Men’s Shed to care for the Monastery’s outdoor spaces and keep them looking their best.
You’ll also likely meet Orlando, the very friendly ginger cat who has appointed himself official mascot of the group.
What to expect
→ Gentle, practical gardening activities
→ A supportive and sociable atmosphere
→ Time outdoors in a peaceful setting
→ Opportunities to learn new skills
→ A chance to help shape a beautiful green space
Why join the Green Team?
Gardening is wonderful exercise for both body and mind. It offers a sense of achievement, boosts wellbeing and creates space for friendships to grow alongside the plants. Together, the gardening group is creating something lasting for the whole community to enjoy.
