What is the Gardening for Wellbeing Service?
Gardening for Wellbeing is a specialised programne offering Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH) sessions across the city. Combining outdoor time, creative activities, and simple crafts, the course is designed to help manage stress, build confidence, meet new people, and feel more connected to the natural world.
What type of activities might the sessions include?
- Pruning and fruit tree maintenance
- Foraging
- Bushcraft
- Cookery workshops
- Eco art including, cyanotype and monoprinting.
- Wicker craft (wreath and basket making)
Is this for me?
Our sessions at NEPHRA are funded by the National Lottery, Awards for All Environment Fund, Manchester City Council - Public Health and fulfilled by award winning social enterprise, Sow the City in partnership with NEPHRA Good Neighbours. Our sessions are specifically designed for people facing the following health challenges:
- Mild to moderate depression and anxiety
- Stress management
- Low confidence
- Social isolation
- Low physical activity levels
- Lack of community connection
- Disconnection from nature
- Bereavement
What to expect
A focused 8-session course, of ecotherapy and gardening activities including practical tasks and meditative exercises.
The Experience
You’ll be part of a small group, guided by an experienced facilitator in a hands-on, relaxed garden environment. Many sessions will include crafts to take home.
Location: The NEPHRA Allotment, Parkfield Road, New Moston, M40 3RN.
This site has extensive growing spaces as well as a covered area in case of inclement weather.
