The Workshop

In this workshop, students will learn about Sugar Pumpkins (Cucurbita pepo) including harvesting, cooking, and replanting. Students will participate mostly in the kitchen in this workshop, the focus will be on kitchen recipes for delicious treats.

Students will carve their pumpkin, and then will see how to use the pumpkin pulp for kitchen creativity. At the end, students will walk away with their own carved pumpkin along with recipes and a replant guide.

Who is Pedro?

Pedro is an avid gardener who has picked up tips and tricks over years of gardening including a past member of Future Farmers of America. Honing in his skills of patience, to be able to transition from garden to table!

Pedro is the CGO (Chief Growth Officer) at Dahoam1516 and operates a small business specializing in local, sustainable gardening in Alameda.

He's a true believer that everyone has potential in the garden and also lives by the motto: to plant a garden is to believe in the future.

Where we garden...

We are always excited to gather in the Friendship Garden at Dahoam1516, a non-profit school, social club, and community-building organization in Alameda. While attending the class, students have full access to this space, including a private brewhouse, biergarten, and teach-in kitchen, as well as many small social gathering areas, all part of the Dahoam1516 experience.
