About this Event
Garba is a vibrant traditional dance from India, performed in circles with rhythmic steps, claps, and joyful movement. These workshops invite people of all ages and backgrounds to come together, learn the basics of Garba, and experience the joy of dancing in a community setting. Come join us for 1 Wokshop for $35.00* or all three.
Garba and Dandiya are joyful folk dances known for their rhythmic stepping and flowing circular movements, creating a lively and engaging workshop experience. Along with Garba, participants will also be introduced to Dandiya, a traditional folk dance performed with rhythmic sticks.
Through guided instruction, participants will explore:
Basic Garba steps and rhythm
Introduction to Dandiya movements using sticks
Movement patterns danced in circles
Musical structure and traditional clapping patterns
Cultural context and traditions behind these dances
Experience of traditional costumes and dance accessories
Participants will also have the opportunity to experience traditional costumes and accessories during the workshop sessions. At the end of the workshop series, 8–16 participants may be selected to perform Garba and Dandiya at upcoming cultural events such as Anjali – A Tribute in Oshawa and other community celebrations.
