Gammon Griot Speaker Series
Presentation Title: One Shared Freedom: Emancipation Day and Frederick Douglass's Self-Made Men Address
Join us on Saturday, November 14th, from 1–3 PM at the Clark County Public Library Main Branch, Gaier Room, for a compelling installment of the Gammon Griot Speaker Series, presented in partnership with Gammon House Inc.
This program features guest griot Karen D. Brame, who will explore the history and significance of Emancipation Day, highlighting its importance to African American communities and the traditions of celebrating freedom, resilience, and liberation.
The program will also recognize the historic connection between Frederick Douglass and Springfield, Ohio, where the renowned abolitionist, orator, and advocate for equality visited and delivered an address in November 1867. Douglass's lifelong commitment to ending slavery and advancing civil rights reflects the enduring significance of Emancipation Day and the continued pursuit of freedom.
Through the theme One Shared Freedom, attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for the historical events, individuals, and traditions that have shaped our shared American history.
Space is limited. Advance registration is encouraged at: https://forms.gle/PDjHfQn1rDusvT8Z6
Can't attend in person? The event will also be livestreamed on the Gammon House Facebook page.
